Brazil is the place where I was born, it is the place where I call home. I’ve been to many different cities and almost all states in Brazil. However, my favorite out of the 26 beautiful states is Rio de Janeiro.
The city provides me a positive energy, because of the happiness of the people and the beauty of the place.

The marvelous city
Rio de janeiro is known as “The Marvelous City” for a reason. It is full of beauty of the nature, the people, the animals and everything surrounding it. One thing that I love about Rio is that the nature is really conserved; there are many threes, flowers, exotic animals and outdoors activities at hand. I did many activities in rio, me and my dad rode bicycles through the biggest lake there, where during Christmas it is full of lights and the biggest Christmas tree of Brazil. We visited the Botanical Garden, the Sugarloaf Mountain, the zoo and many more places, including the Cristo Redentor.
The famous Cristo Redentor, it is a whole new trip! To go there, it is necessary to ride in train, climb several stairs and take paths in trails. In the trip you see all kinds of animals, such as golden monkey-lions, and many birds. The breath taking view makes you feel like you arrived in heaven. I had the opportunity to observe above the clouds each part of that marvelous city. (fun fact: there’s a church inside the statue of Crist)
Beach
The beaches in Rio, are clear and blue as the sky. I also recall how cold the water of the ocean is.
The art found in the beaches are extraordinary, it is full of statues made of the sand of the beach, and people make art works everywhere. The foods in the beaches of Rio are different from the ones you usually find in restaurants and markets, there’s a special and different flavor and sensation to it, the fresh cocoanut water, rennet cheese, the crab, the popsicle are some of my favorites. Me and my family's favorite pastime while in Rio, was to visit different beaches, from the Copacabana beach to Buzios.

Friends
While I was in Rio in the summer of 2010, I decided to join a summer camp. I didn’t know anyone and I was really scared but that was a wonderful decision because I made some of my best friends until this day. The people from Rio are called "Cariocas" and they are simply the most friendly and happiest people you will ever meet. They made my summer full of amusement and laughter. Meeting them, allowed me to go out of my comfort zone and adequate skills for meeting new people and making new friends. I gained confidence that anywhere I would go in the world, I wouldn’t be alone. I created meaningful friendships in that marvelous city.
Carnaval!
Carnaval is a national holiday in brazil, where people dress up and have fun.
In this week adults don’t have work and kids don’t attend school. Rio de Janeiro is known as the capital of carnival for its famous celebration and entertainment throughout this holiday.
In February of 2010 I experienced carnival in Rio for the first time.
Carnaval in Rio is an unforgettable and extraordinary experience to live. I Advice every person to experience this holiday at least once.
My family and I walked through the streets, where everyone (even dogs!) were dressed up with colorful and funny costumes. The people would throw confetti, and “serpentina” (a colorful string of paper) in our heads. We were in the streets of Ipanema, and it was the day of “Blocos de Carnaval” (carnival blocks), it is a parade, were people sing and dance as famous bands and singers play their famous songs. The carnival block of Rio is enormous, but it does not compare to the one in Recife, the city where I was born. In Recife, the block is called “O Galo Da Madrugada”, and it is the biggest Carnival block of the entire world. More than 3 million people go to the streets in that event.
The Carnival Block it is also known as street carnival, and it is all free, it is a time where every person gets together to have fun, no matter the age, no matter the job, no matter the religion or how much money they have.
One of my favorites events that happen only during Carnaval is the parade of the schools of samba. That parade its necessary a ticket and even though it has seats, it is really interactive. There enormous cars caring people who are dancing and people. It is just incredible.
